Minami Ayako is a 33-year-old single, unsuccessful novelist who is struggling to find herself a lifelong partner. One day, Yamada, a scumbag she had dated in the past, appears before her as a ghost. He tells her he cannot reincarnate unless he fulfils a certain "promise". Just then, Ayako is mocked by another popular writer, who is a colleague of hers, that still being unmarried at this age means she must be a failure for having nobody who loves her.
