A Ball at the Anjo House is a poignant look at the fate of an upper-class family in postwar Japan. The U.S. Occupation Forces, in the move toward greater democratization, strip the influential Anjos of their wealth and mansion. On the night before they’re supposed to vacate the premises, the family throws one final party, inviting friends, family and hangers-on to bid farewell not only to them but to a way of life.
